Who is Program in Global Surgery and Social Change
The Program in Global Surgery and Social Change (PGSSC) is a collaborative program based in Boston, Massachusetts, dedicated to improving surgical care in resource-limited settings. It brings together expertise from Harvard teaching hospitals, the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Boston Children's Hospital, and Partners In Health. PGSSC focuses on two key objectives: strengthening surgical systems globally through research, advocacy, and implementation science, and developing future leaders in global surgery and health systems. The program achieves this through research focused on measurable, transparent, and locally-driven surgical and health systems strengthening. It also offers fellowships and research associate positions to empower surgeons, surgical trainees, and medical students worldwide. The program is committed to using the Framework of the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery as a guide for its work. Through its research and training initiatives, PGSSC strives to equip healthcare professionals with the tools and knowledge necessary to make a lasting impact on the health of vulnerable populations.
