INTERNATIONAL PLANT NUTRITION INSTITUTE

The International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) was a not-for-profit organization based in Norcross, Georgia. Established in 1935, IPNI transitioned from its initial role as the American Potash Institute to become a global leader in plant nutrition research and education. IPNI focused its efforts on promoting responsible nutrient management practices to address the world's growing food security needs. Their initiatives spanned various regions, including Africa, Australia/New Zealand, Brazil, China, Eastern Europe/Central Asia, Latin America, Mexico and Central America, North America (Canada and the United States), South Asia, and Southeast Asia. IPNI collaborated with international partners to advance agronomic research, training, and demonstrations. A core aspect of IPNI's mission was the 4R concept: applying the right source of nutrients at the right rate, at the right time, and in the right place. This emphasis on best management practices for nutrient stewardship aimed to balance crop production with environmental sustainability. While IPNI's agronomic programs concluded in 2019, their legacy of research and advocacy continues to influence sustainable agricultural practices worldwide.
