Who is Blue Sky the Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts
Blue Sky, the Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts, is a non-profit organization based in Portland, Oregon. Employing a small team of four, Blue Sky focuses on fostering an appreciation for photography through a variety of public programs. Established in 1975, the organization has grown from a local venue to showcasing both emerging and established national and international artists. Blue Sky achieves its mission by presenting new exhibitions monthly, maintaining a research library open to the public, and hosting regular artist talks and programs. The organization also features a juried archive of original works from regional photographers through its Pacific Northwest Photography Viewing Drawers. Blue Sky is recognized for its commitment to discovering new photographic talent. The organization has earned the distinction of having "the best record of discovering new photographers of any artists' space in the country." Blue Sky operates from a 3,700-square-foot facility located in Portland's historic DeSoto Building. The gallery is open Wednesday - Friday from 12-5 PM and Saturday by appointment.
